Heatwave advice

22 June 2026

This week (22nd – 26th June) temperatures are expected to rise, with amber and red weather warnings in place for heat.

There is lots of advice online about taking care and keeping you and your home cool, including on the Gov.uk site. Somerset Council have also activated their Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP) to support people sleeping rough in the heat.

Our top tips for keeping yourself and your home cool:

  • Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen
  • Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
  • Keep blinds and curtains closed if your windows are in direct sunlight
  • If you can, open windows when the air feels colder outside than inside
  • Turn off lights and electrical equipment that is not in use
