Right to acquire

Find out about buying your home

You may have the Right to Acquire your home at a discount.

How it works

Right to Acquire is a government scheme that means you might be able to buy your rented Shal home at a discount. Both the home and you as the tenant will need to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the Right to Acquire scheme.

You can apply to buy your Shal home as a tenant if you’ve had a public sector landlord for 3 years. Not all homes are eligible for the Right to Acquire scheme, and this includes some of our homes. To find out if your home is eligible, please contact us by:

  • Calling 01278 444344 – lines are open 7.30 am to 4.30 pm
  • Emailing reception@shal.org
  • Texting RENTS plus a message to 07984 355553 to speak to your Housing Officer

All the information you need about the scheme can be found on the Gov.uk website. Our Right to Acquire policy can be viewed on our Policies page.
