Successful lettings show need for more affordable homes

Bridgwater based SHAL Housing took possession of a new block of flats on 25 March in Taunton, Somerset. These 14 two bedroom flats were built by local company West of England Developments ( Taunton) Limited and handed over to SHAL at 10.00am. By 2.00pm the first tenants had signed their tenancy agreement and taken possession of their brand new home.

Available at rents of around £75 a week, SHAL found tenants for these flats through the new Homefinder Somerset choice based lettings system set up by the 5 District Councils in Somerset. They have been let to people who used this internet based system to express an interest in the flats.

SHAL Chief Executive, John Thomson said “We were pleased to be able to work with West of England Developments on this scheme providing a good quality block of flats to rent close to Taunton town centre. We have many houses in our portfolio so being able to let flats widens our “offer”. And the demand shows we have a significant body of people in need of this type of housing.”
