SHAL Housing celebrates 15 years in the business

Bridgwater based SHAL Housing celebrated its 15th Anniversary on 2nd June. Set up originally in 1994, SHAL provides housing to rent in Somerset and so directs a large part of its spending back into the community in which it works.

With rents well below those in the private rented market SHAL provides a steadily improving stock of warm, well maintained homes with a high level of customer service. SHAL is halfway through a four year programme of works to existing properties and has just completed a new 14 flat development in Taunton.

John Thomson , Chief Executive said “Despite the credit crunch we are doing our utmost to improve existing homes and develop new ones. Housing is a fundamental human need and decent housing is essential. We like to think we provide a high quality service but always like to improve. SHAL opened for business in 1994 with 4 staff and no properties. It now employs 18 people in full or part-time posts and owns 627 properties.
