Jeremy Browne MP opens 14 Flat development in Taunton

Jeremy Browne, MP for Taunton conducted the official opening ceremony of Somerton House, Hamilton Road, Taunton on Friday 22 nd May. Somerset based landlord SHAL Housing took possession of this development which consists of 14 two bedroom flats at the end of March. They were let very quickly through the new Homefinder Somerset choice based lettings system with the first tenants moving in on the day of completion.

These flats were constructed by West of England Developments ( Taunton) Limited and were designed to the ECO-Homes “very good” standard. Because of this SHAL anticipates the properties will be cheap to run.

SHAL Chief Executive, John Thomson, said “At a time of economic uncertainty SHAL is pleased to have been able to secure these flats as affordable housing. With rents far below the private sector we hope people will have an opportunity to save for the future. And we would like to thank the Homes and Communities Agency and Taunton Deane Borough Council who are meeting a part of the cost with grant aid. Without their help this scheme would not have happened.”

Jeremy Browne said “There is a serious shortage of affordable housing in Taunton Deane and this is causing anxiety and difficulty for many people and I am pleased to support this scheme.”
