GLAZED OVER AND WARMER TO BOOT!

Bridgwater based not-for-profit landlord SHAL Housing Limited has opened tenders for year 2 of a four year re-glazing programme. And in doing so 73 Somerset households will get new high quality windows, lower fuel bills and increased comfort.

Tenders for this work were looked at on 15 May and work will start on site over the summer. The houses all in the Victoria area of Bridgwater, were originally built largely between the two world wars and their windows have become ill-fitting over the years. The new windows will be argon-filled double glazed units with low-emissivity glass. As a result insulation standards will significantly increase and it is anticipated that heating costs will fall.

SHAL has been steadily improving its housing stock over the past 15 years and this glazing programme follows large heating, re-felting, insulation and rewiring programmes. Years 3 and 4 of the glazing programme will concentrate on the Hamp area of Bridgwater.

John Thomson, SHAL Chief Executive, said “affordable warmth for our customers is extremely important at SHAL. We continue to improve heating and insulation systems in our homes, aiming to increase comfort and decrease fuel usage.”
