Michael Eavis speaks at SHAL Annual Seminar

Photo shows Micheal Eavis and Simon FanshaweGlastonbury came to Bridgwater on Friday 10 October when Bridgwater based SHAL Housing held its Annual Seminar at the new Sedgemoor Auction Centre at Junction 24, Bridgwater.

Michael Eavis came along to talk to writer and broadcaster, Simon Fanshawe about Glastonbury Festival and what it is like being involved in such a huge venture, and to discuss his involvement in social housing.

Whilst talking about the whole of his life from his early days in the merchant navy to his current involvement in social housing, Michael said much about the man who has created the country’s biggest festival.

His farming has been a success. His festival has become a success and now Mr Eavis has revealed that donations of land for affordable housing in his village have also been a success.

He explained that the intention was always to provide housing for local people in the vernacular stone with gardens and allotments and he encouraged other land-owners to support their villages with gifts of land.

Michael said “It is important to get the message across to others. Being involved with this social housing project is one of the best things I have done in my life.”
