Yet more energy saving from SHAL
Bridgwater based SHAL Housing announced today a rolling programme of window replacement in its housing stock with a budget of over £100,000.
Chief Executive John Thomson explained that “Over many years SHAL has replaced old and ill fitting wooden and metal windows with new double glazed windows. However, we have reached a point where a large number of houses still have ill fitting single glazed windows”. A recent survey of a sample of SHAL tenants showed double glazing was a top priority. In addition SHAL has recently agreed a new energy policy which expects the standard of SHAL’s housing stock to continue to rise whilst running costs fall.
Mr Thomson went on to say “ We have done a lot to increase insulation and improve heating systems in recent years but now priority is to be given to replacement windows. This should help achieve our expectation that tenants will have to spend no more than 20% of their disposable income on energy costs. It will also help reduce CO 2 emissions from our homes by 60% of 1990 levels by the year 2050”.
