Joining SHAL
Yes, it is possible!
SHAL is a not-for-profit organisation. Like any company, SHAL cannot trade at a loss. But, unlike most companies it is "not-for-profit". This means that any surplus is re-invested in the business. It is not distributed as profits to shareholders.
And we do have members. Tenants can be members and, in fact, almost anyone in the community can become a member.
SHAL has a paid staff who run the business day-to-day, implementing Board policies. The Board directs and controls SHAL's work, determining our strategic direction and policies, and ensuring we achieve our aims and objectives.
The Board is elected from the membership at the annual general meeting.
All members can hold the Board to account and receive a Newsletter and an invitation to SHAL's Annual Seminar.
More information is available in our leaflet Why We Need Ordinary Members.
You can see who was elected to the Board at our last AGM here!
